How clinicians use it
Before any child can talk about hard things, they need to feel safe in their body and with their people. This kit focuses on that stabilization and regulation work.
Built for
- Children 5–14 with trauma or significant stress exposure, or regulation difficulties
- Stabilization and skills phases of trauma-informed care
- Caregiver sessions on co-regulation and predictable routines
A simple flow
- Confirm current safety (home, school, contact with the person who caused harm) and report as mandated.
- Baseline: Inside Weather ratings and caregiver report of dysregulation episodes, sleep, and nightmares.
- Choose regulation objectives; fill in numbers.
- Normalize reactions; teach body awareness, calm place, grounding, and helpful thinking through play.
- Build the support circle and practice log with caregivers.
- Graph change; decide with your supervisor or consultant whether and when specialized trauma processing is indicated.
Informed by
From the kit’s evidence snapshot: Trauma-focused CBT (individual, group, or with caregiver involvement) has the strongest research support for youth PTSD, and EMDR has good support (Dorsey et al., 2017, J Clin Child Adolesc Psychol). Those treatments usually begin with psychoeducation, regulation, and coping skills. Scope: this kit is not TF-CBT or any other trauma-treatment protocol, and it doesn't include trauma-narrative work. Use it for stabilization and regulation, inside your training and competence. Specialized trauma treatment calls for specific training.
No trauma narrative; not TF-CBT.
